HP Printer Reviews
Hewlett Packard Business Inkjet 1100d Printer
The HP 1100d motors along at 23 pages per minute in black and 20 pages per minute in color, offering 4800 optimized dpi. The print quality is excellent thanks to specially designed modular HP ink cartridges and print heads. Expect minimal user intervention and very infrequent maintenance thanks to this printer’s use of a four ink cartridge system. Since each ink cartridge holds a single color, when one color runs dry, you only need to replace one of the ink cartridges. The 1100d is ideal for small workgroups because it is network capable and can be used with PCs, Macs, and other major network operating systems. An additional standard feature on this machine is duplex printing, which can really save you money on paper. We like this printer a lot for small business use and even home office use. The only problem we see with this is not having two sided faxing and scanning is a definite drawback. This machine is the size of the paper tray – it’s rather small.
Hewlett Packard OfficeJet 7130 Thermal Inkjet Printer
Built in digital camera memory card slots make printing digital photos directly from your camera a cinch. Print at speeds of 22 pages per minute in black and up to 18 pages per minute in black and white. Automatic paper handling features make this printer an attractive option. This multifunction printer includes a flatbed scanner, copiers, printer, and fax modem, all-in-one. From our own experiences, we don’t have very much confidence in this printer. It is not durable, hangs often, and seems to have a glitch with receiving faxes. We would not recommend this printer – there are several other Hewlett Packard printer models that are much better.
Hewlett Packard DesignJet 800 Inkjet Printer
This is an expensive large format printer tuned to provide clear, crisp images and true color printouts. These printers are network ready, making them ideal for small workgroups. The DesignJet 800 has a virtual computer inside which boosts productivity by working through much of the processing work. This printer is used primarily by architects and engineers who need to print illustrations, precise line drawings and other high res- type images. It prints in black at 7.7 square meters per second and offers 2400 X 1200 dpi resolution. From our own experiences, we feel this is not really good for graphic markets and CAD. It can create perfect line drawings and photos – but for this kind of money, you’d expect more.
Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5000 Printer
This is an excellent laser printer that incorporates much of HP’s new technology. It offers excellent paper handling, fast speeds, good print quality, and network printer management. This printer speeds along at 16 pages per minute with 1200 dpi resolution. Its toner cartridges were newly developed and offer 10,000 pages per ink cartridge. This printer can be used for desktop publishing, finance, CAD, marketing and other workgroup type activities. This is an excellent office machine that offers many cool new features from HP.
Hewlett Packard DeskJet 1220C Inkjet Printer
The HP 1220c is an advanced, personal printer that has all the bells and whistles that you’d expect in a business printer. Print on a wide range of media sizes with this wide format printer. It motors a long at 11 pages per minute in black and 9.5 pages per minute in color. As far as we can tell, this is one of the fastest wide format printers available. HP’s PhotoEnhanced Color Layering Technology provides crystal clear printouts at 600 X 600 dpi. The max color resolution on this machine is 2400 x 1200 dpi. Overall, we think this is a great printer. It’s a little large, but that’s what you’d expect. We like that it can be networked and the fact that it is compatible with most operating systems. The software that comes standard with this machine is fabulous.
Hewlett Packard Color LaserJet 4550n Laser Printer
Automatic color calibration ensures high quality color that is consistent across printouts. This printer features HP Image Resolution Enhancement Technology with 2400 dpi color laser print quality. The 4550N is a network-ready printer that is set to go right out of the box. It’s a real workhorse -- ideal for workgroup environments in business. The biggest problem we have with this machine is that it takes forever to warm up. Once ti gets going, you’ll be very happy with the results. It prints photos that look like they came from the photo lab. This printer speeds along at 16 pages per minute in black but only 4 pages per minute in color. You can definitely find faster printers with more advanced color options on the market today. The technology that powers the HP 4550n is a bit dated. We’d recommend a newer model.
Hewlett Packard Color LaserJet 8550n Laser Printer
This is an outstanding color laser printer that offers high-quality printouts without jeopardizing print speeds. It uses a 200 MHz processor, which means this printer won’t take a long time to warm up like the 4550 and older HP printer models. It motors along at 24 pages per minute in black and 6 pages per minute in color, offering 600 X 600 dpi. The HP 8550n supports a duty cycle of about 60K pages. Overall, this is a very reliable printer that is sure to support high volume print applications. It is very easy to network this printer, and it comes with some excellent printer software. This printer uses four separate toner cartridges as well as a drum unit. The ink cartridges and drum are very easy to maintain and replace, as needed.
Hewlett Packard OfficeJet 5110 Thermal Inkjet Printer
Print, fax, and scan with this multifunction printer from Hewlett Packard. It offers high quality photo output with 4800 dpi color resolution. It can fax at 33.5 kbps and features adequate fax memory. It prints at speeds of 12 pages per minute in black and 10 pages per minute in color. This is a great printer for home office users who are looking for a multifunction printer. It is compatible with both Mac and PC, or requires MS Windows 98 or later. Produce up to 3,000 pages per month with this printer. Our only complaint is that this printer has too many options. We think it might be confusing for novice users who are looking for one-click printing.
Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4P Laser printer
The HP 4P is one of the older offerings from Hewlett Packard. It’s a solid printer, but the technology is quite dated. It prints in black and white only at a rate of only 4 pages per minute with 600 X 600 dpi resolution. It was originally developed as a workgroup printer, but would not meet today’s network requirements. It is compatible with only PC platforms and Windows 3X or later. While this was probably a great printer in the 1990’2, it is now a dinosaur. However, if you are looking for a dependable, durable, no-frills printer, you might want to check out some online auction sites. We’ve seen this printer for sale on Ebay and other websites for a hundred dollars or so.

The image quality is excellent – 1200 x 1200 dpi. It uses a 300mhz processor, 16MB RAM, and parallel connectivity. It has a monthly duty cycle of 65K pages. What do we like about this printer? Here are a few key features: it can handle complex jobs, it uses dual paper trays, it uses an instant-on fuser for speedy first-page-printed, its toner cartridges last over 10,000 sheets, and the printer software is excellent.
